Chapter 3 - The Corrupt Counsel

The horrifying reality of their murderous plan completely shattered the last remaining pieces of my heart.

My own daughter was actively participating in my premeditated execution.

I continued to feign unconsciousness, mentally calculating how long it would take for Lena to arrive.

Suddenly, the heavy brass knocker on my front door echoed loudly through the silent house.

Claire gasped in panic, asking Evan who could possibly be visiting at this late hour.

Evan casually adjusted his expensive suit jacket and told her to calm down immediately.

He confidently opened the front door to reveal Arthur Vance, my trusted estate attorney.

Arthur stepped into the foyer, shaking the heavy rain from his expensive umbrella.

He did not look surprised to see me slumped lifelessly in the armchair.

Evan handed Arthur a stack of freshly printed documents and a blue ink pen.

Arthur carefully reviewed the papers, confirming they were the final drafts of the power-of-attorney and trust transfers.

He coldly stated that all they needed was my thumbprint on the signature line before my heart stopped beating.

I realized with absolute disgust that Evan had successfully corrupted the man who had managed my finances for twenty years.

Arthur walked over to my chair and reached out to grab my right hand.

I kept my muscles entirely limp, allowing him to press my thumb onto the ink pad.

He pressed my finger firmly against the legal documents, permanently transferring my entire estate to Evan.

Arthur sighed heavily and mentioned that the coroner was on standby to rule the death a natural cardiac event.

He placed two fingers gently against my neck to check my current pulse.

I tried to slow my heart rate, but the massive surge of adrenaline made it impossible.

Arthur frowned deeply and pressed his fingers harder against my carotid artery.

His eyes widened in absolute shock as he realized my pulse was completely strong and steady.

He stumbled backward, dropping his expensive briefcase onto the hardwood floor.

He looked directly at Evan and screamed that I had not ingested a single drop of the poison.
