Chapter 2 - The Poisoned Formula

My heart pounded furiously as I realized my family had crossed the line into felony theft.

They had sold my corporate prototype to a black-market buyer right outside my home.

Before I could call the police, a pediatric doctor walked into the waiting room with a grim expression.

He told me that Maya was severely malnourished and suffering from a massive post-surgical infection.

She was going to survive, but the doctor had incredibly disturbing news about Liam.

The infant blood tests revealed a dangerous level of adult sleeping medication in his tiny system.

The doctor asked if Maya had accidentally dropped her prescription pills near the baby.

I felt a cold sweat break out across my neck as I remembered the open formula container on our coffee table.

I immediately opened the kitchen security footage from four days ago.

The black-and-white video showed my mother standing over the kitchen counter late at night.

She pulled a small orange prescription bottle from her silk robe pocket.

She crushed three heavy sedative pills into a fine powder using a metal spoon.

Then she stirred the toxic powder directly into Liam's imported baby formula.

She intentionally poisoned my newborn son simply to stop him from crying while they packed for their vacation.

I showed the terrifying video directly to the pediatric doctor.

He gasped in horror and immediately called the hospital social worker to document the attempted murder.

I paced the waiting room, waiting for the police to arrive to take my statement.

Suddenly, my phone vibrated with a high-priority alert from my banking application.

My cancelled credit card had just been swiped for a fifty thousand dollar transaction.
