Chapter 8 - The Fall

The wealthy buyers gasped and screamed as they scattered toward the exit doors.
I kept my gun aimed squarely at Eleanor's chest, my finger hovering dangerously over the trigger.
Eleanor laughed hysterically, dangling the fragile infants precariously by their blankets.
She threatened to drop both of them onto the solid marble floor below if I took a single step closer.
My hands trembled uncontrollably as I looked at the terrifying drop beneath my children.
I slowly lowered the heavy weapon and placed it gently onto the velvet carpet.
I fell to my knees in front of the entire room, begging Eleanor to take my life instead of theirs.
I promised I would sign whatever documents she needed to finalize the horrible transaction.
Eleanor smirked triumphantly and signaled for two heavily armed guards to approach me.
She casually ordered them to execute me quietly so they could proceed with the final sale.
Before the guards could even draw their weapons, the deafening wail of police sirens filled the air.
Dozens of heavily armored vehicles smashed through the front gates of the massive estate.
The grand stained-glass windows of the ballroom shattered inward as flashing red and blue lights illuminated the darkness.
Eleanor panicked entirely, spinning around to see the tactical teams breaching the lower doors.
In her frantic state, her expensive high heels slipped violently on the polished marble edge of the balcony.
She shrieked in terror as she lost her balance and fell backward into the open air.

As her body went over the railing, her grip completely failed.
The two tiny blankets slipped from her hands, sending my babies plummeting toward the hard floor below.
