Chapter 6 - The Inside Man

Eleanor turned her back on me and confidently strutted out of the basement cell.

The heavy steel door locked behind her with a loud, terrifying metallic clank.

I thrashed wildly on the cold marble floor, desperately trying to break the thick plastic ties binding my wrists.

Tears streamed down my face as I watched the horrifying auction continue on the security monitor.

I knew Mark would be here any minute to finish the job he started in the car.

Suddenly, a young security guard wearing a tailored black suit stepped in front of the cell bars.

He looked around nervously before pulling a large ring of keys from his leather belt.

He quickly unlocked the cell door and rushed inside, pulling a pocket knife to cut my bindings.

I backed away in fear, assuming he was sent to kill me before Mark arrived.

The young man shook his head frantically and whispered that he was not going to hurt me.

He told me his name was David, and he was the only son of the nurse named Judy.

He had just learned that Eleanor and Mark orchestrated the hit-and-run accident that killed his mother.

David wanted absolute revenge for what they had done to his family.

He reached into his jacket and handed me a heavy, loaded pistol.

He said we were going to sneak up the back maintenance staircase and crash the auction together.

I gripped the cold steel of the weapon, feeling a surge of pure, vengeful adrenaline pump through my veins.

We slipped out of the cell and quietly navigated the dark, narrow corridors beneath the mansion.

We climbed a spiral concrete staircase that led directly to the upper levels.

Just as we reached the heavy wooden door at the top of the stairs, it violently burst open.

A deafening gunshot echoed through the narrow stairwell.

May you like

David gasped, clutching his chest as he fell backward down the concrete steps.

Mark stepped out of the shadows at the top of the stairs, holding a smoking pistol with a maniacal grin on his face.
