Chapter 5 - The Auction House

The driver immediately pulled a heavy rag soaked in chemicals from beneath his seat.
Before I could even scream for help, he pressed the foul-smelling cloth firmly over my nose and mouth.
The world quickly faded into a dark, swirling abyss as the chemicals dragged me into unconsciousness.
I woke up hours later, lying on a cold, polished marble floor in a windowless room.
My arms were bound tightly behind my back with thick plastic zip ties.
I frantically looked around the luxurious basement cell, realizing my baby was no longer with me.
I screamed his name until my throat was raw and bleeding.
The heavy steel door at the end of the room slowly creaked open.
An elegant, terrifyingly calm woman walked in, wearing the exact same red winter coat from the video.
She introduced herself as Eleanor, a private broker for elite, underground adoptions.
I begged her on my knees to return my children and let us go home.
Eleanor laughed softly, a sound that chilled me to my very core.
She explained that Mark had incurred millions of dollars in gambling debts with a violent crime syndicate.
He had promised to pay them back by supplying perfectly healthy newborns for their wealthiest clients.
Eleanor crouched down until she was eye level with me.
She revealed that Mark did not just sell the twin who supposedly died in the delivery room.
He had promised the syndicate both of my children from the very beginning.
He only took them one at a time to avoid raising any immediate suspicion with the hospital administration.
Eleanor stood up and pointed a manicured finger toward a security monitor mounted on the concrete wall.
The screen showed a lavish, crowded ballroom located somewhere directly above us.
Dozens of incredibly wealthy people were raising numbered paddles in the air.
Sitting on a velvet display stage in the center of the room were both of my beautiful twin boys.

Eleanor smiled wickedly and turned back to look at me.
"Mark is on his way down here right now to permanently silence you, so we can finalize the sale without any complications."
