Chapter 8 - The Brothers' Final Stand

Rodrigo stepped out of the thick brush surrounding the pier, holding the heavy shotgun leveled directly at my chest.

He laughed a cruel, mocking laugh that echoed loudly over the gentle lapping of the dark water.

He praised my heroic swimming effort, noting how pathetic I looked shivering on the wet wooden planks.

He explained that the doll was simply a clever distraction to ensure I completely wasted my final moments.

I stood up slowly, the freezing water dripping violently from my clothes as I faced my brother.

I asked him how he could possibly participate in the murder of my wife and the kidnapping of his own nephew.

Rodrigo's face twisted into a mask of pure, bitter jealousy and lifelong resentment.

He screamed that our grandfather had always favored me, leaving me the bulk of the priceless estate.

He was tired of playing the loyal, secondary brother while I lived a perfect life with a beautiful wife.

He raised the shotgun to his shoulder, preparing to execute me and finally claim the entire family fortune.

I noticed the rotting wooden planks of the old pier bowing significantly under his heavy, arrogant stance.

I feigned total defeat, dropping to my knees and begging him to spare my pathetic life.

Rodrigo smiled proudly, completely blinded by his own massive ego and deeply rooted hatred.

He took one confident step forward to deliver the final, lethal shot at point-blank range.

I suddenly grabbed the heavy, waterlogged blanket and threw it violently directly over the barrel of his weapon.

I launched my entire body forward, slamming my shoulder forcefully into his knees with devastating momentum.

Rodrigo lost his balance and fired the shotgun blindly, the blast completely missing my head and shattering the wooden railing.

We crashed heavily onto the splintering dock, brutally wrestling for absolute control of the deadly firearm.

He managed to rip the shotgun away from my grip and aggressively turned the barrel toward my stomach.

Before he could pull the trigger, the rotted wooden planks beneath us completely gave way with a loud crack.

We both plummeted into the shallow, jagged rocks waiting dangerously just beneath the pier.

Rodrigo landed awkwardly, and the heavy shotgun discharged violently upon striking the hard stones.
