Chapter 5 - The Ambush

Rodrigo violently shoved me forward into the muddy dirt overlooking the dark lake.

He stood over me with a customized heavy pistol aimed directly at my chest.

He laughed arrogantly, enjoying the overwhelming sense of power he held in this terrible moment.

He mocked my pathetic attempt to play the hero for a wife who was already rotting in a box.

I slowly wiped the thick mud from my face and glared at my treacherous brother.

I told him I knew everything about the shell corporation and the forged inheritance documents.

Rodrigo's arrogant smile did not waver for a single second.

He proudly confessed that Camila had fought back fiercely when they paralyzed her in the living room.

She had managed to claw at his neck and rip the button off his jacket before the drugs took hold.

Hearing the horrific details of my wife's final desperate moments filled me with blinding rage.

I grabbed a handful of loose dirt and violently threw it directly into Rodrigo's eyes.

He screamed in sudden pain and blindly fired his pistol into the dark night sky.

I lunged forward and tackled him aggressively to the wet ground.

We rolled through the sharp, unforgiving gravel in a brutal struggle for the loaded weapon.

I punched him ruthlessly in the jaw, unleashing all the grief and hatred burning inside my soul.

Rodrigo groaned and desperately kneed me entirely in the ribs, knocking the wind out of my lungs.

The gun slipped from his grasp and slid across the muddy embankment out of our reach.

I scrambled toward the weapon, but the loud wail of approaching police sirens suddenly shattered the silence.

Flashing red and blue lights completely flooded the vineyard perimeter.

Rodrigo spat blood from his mouth and smiled at me with pure, unadulterated evil.

He proudly announced that he had anonymously called the police thirty minutes ago.

He had reported that I had violently murdered my wife and poisoned the head maid in a psychotic rage.

The police were not here to save me; they were heavily armed and hunting a dangerous fugitive.
