Chapter 6 - The Hostage

The piercing glow of the police searchlights swept frantically across the dark vineyard.
I realized immediately that if I were arrested, my son would absolutely die at the hands of my mother.
I abandoned the dropped pistol and sprinted wildly into the dense rows of grapevines.
Dogs barked aggressively in the distance as the authorities began their massive manhunt.
I navigated the sprawling, familiar property purely by muscle memory, completely evading the police cordon.
I hiked for three grueling hours through the rough terrain until I reached the city limits.
I desperately needed a safe place to hide and formulate a plan to rescue my newborn son.
I made my way through the dark residential streets toward Doctor Ana Lucía's private apartment.
I carefully climbed the rusted fire escape and pried open her unlocked kitchen window.
I dropped silently into the dark apartment, completely exhausted and gasping for air.
The living room was completely silent, illuminated only by the faint glow of a streetlamp outside.
I walked cautiously down the hallway, calling out Ana Lucía's name in a low whisper.
I stepped into the main living space and completely froze in my tracks.
My mother, Teresa, was sitting comfortably in an expensive velvet armchair facing the window.
She was holding a small, suppressed silver handgun resting casually on her lap.
Ana Lucía was kneeling on the floor beside the chair, her hands tied securely behind her back.
My mother took a slow, elegant sip from a glass of red wine resting on the side table.
She calmly noted that I had always been incredibly predictable when forced into a corner.
She tossed a thick stack of legal documents onto the coffee table separating us.
Teresa demanded that I sign the absolute transfer of my grandfather's estate over to her control right now.
May you like
I told her I would gladly sign away my own soul if she simply handed over my son.
Teresa smiled coldly and informed me that my son was currently locked inside a sinking car in the lake.
