Chapter 7 - The Hostage Situation

Grant pressed the ceramic barrel against the General's temple.
He screamed at the federal agents to drop their weapons immediately.
The agents slowly lowered their rifles to protect the high ranking officer.
Grant dragged the General backward toward the hospital room door.
He ordered Chloe to grab my baby from the bassinet.
Chloe hesitated, terrified by the escalating violence.
Grant aimed the weapon at Chloe and told her he would shoot her if she disobeyed.
Chloe cried as she slowly reached her trembling hands toward my daughter.
I stood up from the hospital bed, ignoring the agonizing pain in my body.
I stepped directly between Chloe and the bassinet.
I looked Grant in the eyes and told him he would have to kill me first.
Grant smirked and said that killing me was always his primary objective.
He pointed the pistol directly at my chest.
Captain Miller dived in front of me just as Grant pulled the trigger.
The ceramic bullet struck Miller in the shoulder, sending him crashing to the floor.
Grant used the chaos to drag the General out into the hallway.
The heavy steel blast doors slammed shut behind him, locking us inside the room.
Grant had successfully escaped into the hospital corridors with a three star hostage.
I knelt on the floor and applied immediate pressure to Captain Miller's bleeding shoulder.
He groaned in pain but told me the wound was not fatal.
The federal agents frantically tried to bypass the locked blast doors.
I pulled out my secure tablet and accessed the hospital's internal security network.
I tracked Grant's movements through the surveillance cameras in the hallway.
He was dragging General Harrington toward the emergency stairwell.
I realized Grant was trying to reach the roof to signal his cartel contacts for an extraction.
I used my command clearance to remotely lock the roof access doors.
Grant furiously shot the electronic keypad, but the reinforced steel door remained shut.
He was completely trapped on the top floor of the military hospital.
I left Captain Miller with the medics and followed the federal agents into the stairwell.
We slowly ascended the concrete steps, weapons drawn and ready.
We reached the top floor landing and took cover behind the thick concrete walls.
Grant was standing at the end of the corridor, holding the General tightly.
He screamed that his cartel extraction helicopter was already on the way.
He threatened to execute the General if we did not open the roof doors immediately.
I stepped out from behind cover and showed him my secure tablet.
I played an intercepted audio transmission from his cartel handlers.
The cartel boss stated that Grant was a liability and ordered the helicopter to stand down.

Grant realized he had been completely abandoned by everyone in his life.
He pointed his weapon at me and screamed with absolute, blinding rage.
