Chapter 6 - The Treason Trap

The heavy steel doors locked into place with a deafening metallic thud.
Grant realized he was entirely trapped inside the secure military wing.
He began to sweat profusely as the military police forced him onto his knees.
Chloe dropped to the floor and began sobbing hysterically into her hands.
She begged the officers for mercy and claimed Grant had forced her to participate.
Grant cursed at her and told her to keep her mouth shut.
He looked up at me with wild, desperate eyes.
He demanded to know how a simple administrative assistant had the authority to lock down a hospital.
He accused me of sleeping with a high ranking officer to get special treatment.
I did not bother to dignify his pathetic insult with a response.
I simply watched as the main elevator at the end of the hall began to descend.
The digital floor indicator dinged softly as it reached our restricted level.
The elevator doors slid open to reveal a squad of elite federal agents.
Walking directly in front of them was a man wearing a crisp dress uniform covered in medals.
It was Three Star General Thomas Harrington from the Pentagon.
The General walked past the armed guards and entered my hospital room.
He stopped at the foot of my bed and snapped into a perfect, crisp salute.
He addressed me loudly and clearly as Colonel Langley.
Grant's jaw dropped open in absolute shock as he heard my true rank.
He stared at me as if he was looking at a complete stranger.
General Harrington lowered his hand and handed me a thick classified dossier.
The folder was stamped with bright red letters indicating severe treason.
The General turned to look down at Grant with pure disgust.
He told Grant that military intelligence had been monitoring his activities for the past six months.
He revealed that Grant had been stealing classified documents from my home office safe.
He explained that Grant had been selling those secrets to foreign operatives to pay off his cartel debts.
Grant began to hyperventilate as the reality of his crimes crashed down upon him.
He tried to claim that he was a civilian and the military could not touch him.
General Harrington offered him a cold and merciless smile.
He told Grant that espionage against the United States military fell directly under federal jurisdiction.
He announced that Grant was going to be locked in a dark cell for the rest of his natural life.

Federal agents stepped forward with heavy steel handcuffs to place Grant under arrest.
Grant suddenly pulled a smuggled ceramic pistol from his boot and grabbed the General as a human shield.
