Chapter 7 - The Uprising

I caught the heavy assault rifle, completely stunned by Mateo's sudden reversal.

"You were protecting us this entire time?" I asked, checking the weapon's loaded magazine.

"My father served your father, Adrián," Mateo explained quickly as we stepped out of the vault.

"I had to pretend to betray you so I could safely infiltrate the estate's inner defenses."

Valeria grabbed a discarded pistol from the armory rack and checked the safety mechanism.

The three of us moved silently through the dark, damp underground tunnels of the massive estate.

We needed to reach the main security control room to disable the external gates.

"Once the gates are open, the federal authorities will swarm this compound," Valeria strategized.

We climbed a spiral staircase and quietly eliminated two guards standing near the control room.

I felt a strange, cold calmness wash over me as I fully embraced my dangerous lineage.

I kicked the control room door open, completely surprising the tactical operator inside.

Mateo quickly secured the room and began typing rapidly on the main security console.

"The external gates are open, and the encrypted distress signal has been sent to the FBI," Mateo announced.

I looked at Valeria, realizing that sending her own father to prison would destroy her entire family legacy.

"Are you absolutely sure about this?" I asked, looking deeply into her eyes.

"My legacy starts with you, Adrián," she promised, leaning in to kiss me passionately amidst the chaos.

Suddenly, the massive surveillance monitors on the wall flickered and changed completely.

The screen showed Dante standing in the main courtyard, holding a terrified young woman at gunpoint.

It was my younger sister, Sofia, who I thought was safely studying abroad in Europe.

"Come out and play, true heir, or I will end your bloodline right now," Dante laughed through the speakers.
