Chapter 6 - The True Heir

The underground vault was completely pitch black and freezing cold.
The heavy steel door slammed shut, sealing us entirely away from the outside world.
Valeria instantly moved closer to me in the darkness to share her body heat.
"That biometric heartbeat story was incredibly brilliant," I whispered, shivering violently.
"It was a complete lie, but it bought us a few hours," Valeria replied softly.
She awkwardly maneuvered her bound hands into her dress pocket and pulled out a small hairpin.
Within two minutes, she had successfully picked the lock on my plastic restraints.
I quickly untied her wrists, massaging my bruised skin as the blood flow finally returned.
"We need to find a way out before Dante's twisted medical team arrives," I said urgently.
Valeria pulled a small tactical flashlight from her boot and illuminated the small titanium drive.
"Before we escape, you need to know exactly why my father murdered your parents," Valeria said.
She plugged the small drive into a hidden, offline terminal in the corner of the vault.
The screen lit up, revealing decades of stolen financial records and bloodline documents.
"Your last name is not just Morales, Adrián," Valeria explained, pointing at a specific birth certificate.
"Your father was the true founder of this entire syndicate before my father violently betrayed him."
I stared at the glowing screen, my entire reality completely shattering for the second time tonight.
I was not just a random orphan caught in a dangerous crossfire.
I was the sole surviving heir to the most powerful criminal empire in the entire country.
"Half of those mercenaries upstairs swore a blood oath to your family," Valeria revealed.
Before I could fully process my true heritage, the vault door began to hiss open mechanically.
Instead of Dante's medical team, it was Mateo standing there holding an assault rifle.

He tossed the weapon directly to me and smiled genuinely.
"It is time to take back your throne, Boss," Mateo said, completely dropping his traitorous facade.
