Chapter 10 - The New Dawn

"Run!" I screamed, grabbing Valeria's hand and pulling her forcefully away from the bomb.

We abandoned Alejandro in the sub-basement and sprinted desperately up the concrete stairs.

We threw ourselves out of the ground-floor window just as the timer hit absolute zero.

A massive, deafening explosion ripped through the foundation of the grand estate.

The shockwave launched us violently across the wet grass, knocking the wind completely out of my lungs.

We lay in the mud, watching the entire corrupt empire physically crumble into a massive pile of burning rubble.

Alejandro Cortés and his dark legacy were permanently buried under thousands of tons of concrete and steel.

Federal agents swarmed the lawn a moment later, pulling us safely away from the blazing inferno.

Six months later, the chaotic nightmares of that terrible night finally began to fade.

I legally dismantled the remaining criminal assets and donated the massive wealth to various city charities.

Valeria and I left the corporate world entirely behind to start a quiet, peaceful life together on the coast.

We were sitting on the wooden porch of our new beach house, watching the beautiful sunset paint the sky.

I pulled her close, realizing that the fake boyfriend deal had led me to the most genuine love of my life.

"You really gave me the most precious thing in the world," I whispered, kissing her forehead gently.

She smiled perfectly, completely free from the heavy shadows of her toxic family.

Our happy ending was absolutely secure, and the violent past was finally laid to rest.

But as I walked back inside to grab a bottle of wine, I noticed a strange black envelope resting on the kitchen counter.

I broke the heavy wax seal and pulled out a fresh photograph of my supposedly dead parents standing next to an unknown mafia boss.

The handwritten note on the back simply read: "Alejandro was just a foot soldier; the real war starts now."
