Chapter 3 - The Most Precious Thing

The ballroom spun violently around me as Dante's words echoed in my mind.

I had grown up in an orphanage, believing my parents had died in a tragic car accident.

I pulled my hand out of Valeria's grip and backed away from her in absolute horror.

"Is it true?" I demanded, completely ignoring the wealthy guests staring at us.

Valeria grabbed my arm and dragged me forcefully into a private, soundproof VIP room.

She locked the heavy door behind us and let out a long, trembling breath.

"My father is a monster who built his empire on the blood of innocent people," Valeria confessed softly.

Tears gathered in her fierce eyes, completely shattering her impenetrable corporate facade.

"I hired you because I needed someone entirely off the grid to help me destroy him from the inside," she explained.

I paced the small room, feeling completely betrayed by the woman I had secretly admired for years.

"What is the precious thing you promised me?" I asked bitterly.

Valeria walked over to a hidden wall safe and quickly entered a complex digital code.

She pulled out a small, heavily encrypted titanium USB drive and held it up to the light.

"This drive contains the financial ledgers, the murder contracts, and the absolute truth about your family," Valeria said.

She promised to give it to me, but only if I helped her survive the impending mafia war.

I reluctantly agreed, realizing this was my only chance to avenge the family I never knew.

Before she could hand me the drive, a massive explosion suddenly shattered the reinforced glass window of the VIP room.
