Chapter 5 - The Name of the Father

With the company secured, I finally had a moment to breathe. I walked into the nursery where Sarah was feeding the twins.
They were beautiful. Perfect.
"Do they have names?" I asked softly, sitting in the rocking chair across from her.
Sarah looked up, a tentative, shy smile crossing her face. "Leo and Lucas."
I felt a massive lump in my throat. My grandfather's name was Leo. My father's name was Lucas. Even after I had thrown her out, even after the hell she went through, she had named our children after my family.
"Can I... can I hold one?" I asked, my hands shaking.

Sarah nodded. She gently placed Leo into my arms. He was so light, yet he felt like the center of the universe. He opened his eyes—my eyes—and wrapped a tiny, warm fist around my index finger.
A single tear dropped from my cheek onto his blanket. In that moment, the anger and the betrayal faded away, replaced by an overwhelming, unbreakable vow. No one was going to take my family. Not ever again.
