Chapter 4 - The Corporate Strike

The next morning, the war officially began.
Jessica wasn't just my fiancée; I had given her a seat on the board of my real estate development firm. While we were hiding in the safe house, she made her move.
My phone blew up with alerts. Jessica had used the forged surrogacy contract and a fabricated police report claiming I had "kidnapped" the children to file an emergency injunction. She froze my personal bank accounts and called a sudden board meeting to have me ousted as CEO, citing mental instability.
"She’s trying to cut off your resources," Marcus explained, setting up a war room on the dining table with laptops and legal files. "Without money, you can't fight the custody battle. She starves you out, takes the company, and takes the kids."
"She vastly underestimates me," I said, a cold fire burning in my chest.
I opened my laptop and dialed into the emergency board meeting via video link. Jessica was sitting at the head of my conference table, looking triumphant.
"David," she said with fake sympathy. "Please, just surrender. You need help."
"I don't need help, Jessica. I need you to pack your desk," I said, projecting absolute authority. I looked at the other board members. "Gentlemen, Jessica Lawson has just committed corporate fraud. Yesterday, my private investigator traced $4.2 million of missing company funds directly into an offshore account managed by her cousin. The FBI has already been notified."

The boardroom erupted into chaos. Jessica’s smug smile vanished completely.
"You're suspended, Jessica," I finished. "Effective immediately. Now get out of my chair."
