Chapter 6 - The Blackmail File

Elena stared at her own death certificate, the color completely draining from her beautiful face.

Ryan had not only planned to murder me for life insurance, but he was also going to silence his first wife.

He was tying up every loose end to escape to a foreign country as a very rich, single man.

"He was going to kill us both," I whispered, the horrifying reality settling deeply into my bones.

Vanessa covered her mouth in shock, finally realizing the true evil she had been protecting.

"We have to take all of this to Detective Harris immediately," Vanessa suggested frantically.

Elena shook her head and angrily ripped her forged death certificate into tiny pieces.

"If we give this to the police, Ryan's lawyers will drag the trial out for years," Elena warned us.

"He will easily post bail, flee the country using these fake passports, and hire someone to finish the job."

I looked at the stacks of stolen cash and the heavy blackmail files scattered across the desk.

Elena was absolutely right about the corrupt justice system protecting wealthy men like Ryan.

We needed to ensure that Ryan walked directly into a trap he could never escape from.

"We are going to let him think his plan is still working perfectly," I announced.

I grabbed the video tape containing Vanessa's blackmail footage and smashed it completely with my shoe.

Vanessa let out a massive breath of relief, falling to her knees in pure gratitude.

"Now you owe us, Vanessa," Elena said, looking down at the crying bank manager.

"I need you to call the bail bondsman and pay for Ryan's release tonight," Elena commanded.

Vanessa looked completely horrified at the thought of setting the monster free.

"Why would we let him out of jail?" Vanessa asked, her voice shaking violently.

"Because he still thinks the offshore money is waiting for him, and he needs to silence me to get it," I explained.

We gathered the fake passports and the remaining evidence into a duffel bag.

We left the storage unit exactly as we found it, completely resetting the lock.

Just as we returned to my house to prepare for his arrival, my phone buzzed with an alert.

The bail notification confirmed that Ryan had been officially released from police custody.

Ten minutes later, the security cameras outside my house pinged with a terrifying motion warning.

Ryan had arrived, but he was not alone.

He had brought three heavily armed men to clean up his mess permanently.
