Chapter 3 - The Federal Threat

I immediately stepped between the federal agents and my father's hospital bed.

"You are not arresting a man who just survived a massive cardiac event," I stated with absolute authority.

The lead agent scoffed and reached for his silver handcuffs.

"Step aside, son, or I will arrest you for obstructing a federal investigation."

I pulled my platinum business card from my jacket pocket and handed it directly to the aggressive agent.

The man glanced at the embossed lettering, and all the color instantly drained from his arrogant face.

He realized he was standing face to face with the billionaire CEO of the largest tech conglomerate in the state.

"My legal team will destroy your entire career if you touch him without a medical clearance," I warned coldly.

The agent slowly lowered the handcuffs and took a frustrated step backward.

"Your father signed off on forged checks transferring massive funds to offshore accounts," the agent explained defensively.

"He is the prime suspect in a massive criminal conspiracy."

I looked back at my father, who was shaking his head in desperate denial.

"I only signed the routine payroll documents that Rick handed me," my father pleaded.

"Rick told me the offshore accounts were just standard vendor payments."

The federal agent pulled a thick folder from his briefcase and slapped it onto the rolling medical table.

"It was not just your brother who processed those illegal transfers," the agent revealed with a grim smile.

"We have digital signatures proving that your daughter was actively authorizing the fraudulent transactions."

I spun around and stared at Emily, who was standing trembling in the hospital doorway.

She completely burst into tears and covered her face with her shaking hands.

"Uncle Rick forced me to do it," Emily sobbed hysterically.

"He said if I did not sign those papers, a very dangerous cartel was going to murder our entire family."
