Chapter 9 - The Ultimate Sacrifice

Maya smiled warmly at me, completely ignoring the fact that she was currently holding a lethal weapon to our father's temple.
"You really made me work for this one, Alexander, but every game has to end eventually," she said with chilling calmness.
She demanded that I hand over the silver USB drive and the phone containing the video of the warehouse operation.
I slowly raised my hands, stepping fully into the room while subtly gesturing for Lucy to stay out in the hallway.
"Let Dad go, Maya, he has absolutely nothing to do with this anymore," I pleaded, trying to keep her focus entirely on me.
Maya laughed bitterly, stating that she despised our father for always favoring me and handing me the keys to the empire.
I slowly reached into my wet jacket, pulling out the USB drive and my phone, placing them carefully on the small motel table.
Maya's eyes flickered down to the devices, giving me the exact microsecond of distraction I desperately needed.
I lunged forward with explosive speed, completely ignoring the gun as I tackled my sister backward toward the large motel window.
We crashed through the cheap glass, tumbling violently out of the second-story room and plummeting toward the concrete pool deck below.
We hit the deep water of the motel pool with a massive splash, sinking into the freezing, chlorinated depths as we fought for the gun.
Maya kicked me viciously in the ribs, but I refused to let go of her wrist, desperately prying the weapon from her fingers.
I managed to wrench the gun away, swimming to the surface and gasping for air as I dragged her out of the water.
Maya coughed violently on the concrete deck, glaring at me with pure, unadulterated hatred as I aimed her own weapon at her chest.
"You can't shoot me, Alexander, you are entirely too weak to do what needs to be done," she mocked maliciously.
I didn't pull the trigger, because I knew death was an incredibly easy escape for a monster like her.
May you like
Instead, I reached into my wet pocket and pulled out Doctor Aris's actual phone, holding it up for her to see.
"I am not going to shoot you, Maya, because the FBI task force has been listening to this entire conversation on a live call for the past ten minutes."
