Chapter 3 - The Frame Job

The security guards moved toward me with their hands resting threateningly on their heavy batons.

I knew that if I let them detain me in this underground vault, Maya would ensure I never saw the light of day again.

I grabbed the heavy metal deposit box and swung it viciously, striking the closest guard squarely in the chest.

As he stumbled backward into his partner, I sprinted past them and bolted up the marble staircase toward the lobby.

The bank's alarm sirens began to wail loudly, echoing through the massive building and causing customers to scream in panic.

I burst through the front doors and threw myself into the driver's seat of my SUV, slamming the transmission into drive.

Lucy looked at me with wide, terrified eyes as I sped away from the curb just as police cruisers began flooding the intersection.

"She owns everything, Lucy, she stole the entire company and forged the evidence against you," I confessed, my voice breaking.

Lucy simply placed a comforting hand on my shoulder, showing me a level of grace I absolutely did not deserve.

I pulled into the parking lot of a cheap, run-down motel on the outskirts of the city to hide our vehicle.

I needed to access my personal offshore accounts to get us enough cash to hire the best lawyers in the country.

I opened my laptop on the stained motel bed and rapidly typed in my banking credentials.

A bright red error message flashed across the screen, informing me that all of my accounts had been permanently frozen by a federal court order.

Maya hadn't just stolen the business; she had completely financially erased me.

I decided I had to confront her face-to-face, so I left Lucy to guard my father and took a taxi to my corporate headquarters.

I bypassed the front desk using a hidden freight elevator I had designed myself years ago.

I kicked open the doors to the executive boardroom, finding Maya sitting casually in my custom leather chair.

She didn't look surprised to see me, slowly swirling a glass of expensive champagne with a wicked smirk.

"You have absolutely nothing left, Alexander, so I suggest you walk away before this gets ugly," she mocked.

I marched toward her, threatening to expose her forged documents to the entire board of directors.

Maya simply laughed, pressing a button on her desk phone to summon building security.

The boardroom doors swung open, but it wasn't the security team that walked in.

Six heavily armed police detectives entered the room with their weapons drawn, aiming directly at my head.

"Alexander Vance, you are under arrest for the brutal murder of the First Chicago Security Bank manager," the lead detective announced.
