Chapter 6 - The Doctor's Confession

Doctor Aris locked the records room door behind him, his hands shaking violently as he kept the gun pointed at us.

"Maya told me you would eventually come looking for this file, Alexander," he said, his voice dripping with intense fear.

I slowly stepped in front of Lucy, keeping my hands raised where the terrified doctor could clearly see them.

"She poisoned my father, Doctor, and you helped her cover up an attempted murder," I stated firmly, hoping to appeal to his conscience.

The doctor let out a broken, pathetic sob, lowering the heavy revolver just a fraction of an inch.

He explained that Maya had discovered his massive gambling debts and threatened to have the cartel murder his family if he didn't cooperate.

He had fabricated the stroke diagnosis to protect his own children from Maya's ruthless, violent enforcers.

"If you give us that file and testify against her, I promise I will use every resource I have to protect your family," I pleaded earnestly.

Doctor Aris looked deeply conflicted, his moral compass violently clashing with his desperate need to survive.

He slowly lowered the gun completely, nodding his head in a silent agreement to help us bring Maya down.

Before he could hand over his own encrypted backup files, the heavy reinforced door of the records room violently exploded inward.

Maya's corporate fixers poured into the room through the thick smoke, firing suppressed automatic weapons indiscriminately.

I tackled Lucy behind a massive row of steel filing cabinets as bullets shredded the paper files all around us.

Doctor Aris wasn't fast enough to find cover, taking two lethal bullets directly to his chest.

He collapsed onto the cold linoleum floor, bleeding profusely as the gunmen slowly advanced on our position.

I grabbed a heavy fire extinguisher from the wall and hurled it directly at the nearest fixer, knocking him unconscious.

I low-crawled over to the dying doctor, desperately putting pressure on his catastrophic wounds.

Doctor Aris coughed up blood, shoving a small, silver USB drive into my bloody palm.

"She doesn't just steal money, Alexander... she uses your furniture trucks to move their poison," he whispered with his final breath.
