Chapter 8 - The Delivery Room

The detective didn't bother with paperwork, simply putting me in his unmarked cruiser and driving me back to the hospital with the sirens blaring.
I sprinted through the emergency room doors, my heart pounding a frantic rhythm against my ribs.
I found the maternity ward in a state of absolute chaos, with nurses and doctors rushing in and out of room 412.
I pushed my way through the medical staff and saw Emma lying on the bed, her face completely drained of color and covered in sweat.
The monitors were screaming with urgent, high-pitched alarms, signaling that the baby was in severe distress.
I ran to her side and grabbed her hand, kissing her damp forehead and telling her that our family was finally locked away.
She squeezed my fingers with surprising strength, her eyes locking onto mine with a fierce, unbreakable determination.
The lead obstetrician informed us that the baby’s umbilical cord was dangerously wrapped, and they needed to perform an emergency extraction immediately.
I stood by Emma’s side, whispering every promise I could think of while the medical team worked frantically to save our son.
The minutes stretched into an eternity of blood, harsh lights, and the terrifying silence of an unborn child.
Finally, with one last, agonizing push from Emma, the doctor successfully delivered our baby into the world.
A loud, healthy, and incredibly beautiful cry echoed through the sterile hospital room, shattering the heavy tension.
I collapsed onto the edge of the bed, weeping openly as the nurse placed our perfectly healthy boy onto Emma's chest.
We held each other, completely ignoring the chaos around us, finally basking in the pure joy of our new, beautiful family.
The nightmare was absolutely, unequivocally over, and the people who tried to destroy us were sitting in federal holding cells.
Just as the nurses began to clean up the room, a tall, well-dressed man in an expensive suit walked smoothly through the door.
He didn't look like a doctor, and he definitely wasn't a police officer.
May you like
He calmly pulled a stamped legal document from his briefcase and handed it directly to me.
He coldly announced that he was the executor of my late father's estate, and the trust fund had been entirely liquidated two hours ago.
