Chapter 7 - The Double Cross

I stared at Andrew kneeling on the linoleum floor, completely utterly pathetic.

He was begging the woman he had destroyed just twenty-four hours ago to save him from his own mistress.

"Security is on the way," Zachary announced calmly, holding his phone to his ear.

"Please, Samantha, you have to believe me!" Andrew sobbed, wiping snot from his nose.

"My mother and Gemma planned the whole thing, they only used me to get access to your banking passwords!"

I slowly pulled my phone out of my pocket and tapped the screen.

"Keep talking, Andrew," I said, ensuring the voice recorder app was clearly capturing his every word.

"Tell me exactly how Brenda and Gemma planned the wire fraud."

Andrew, desperate and panicked, spilled every single detail.

He confessed that Brenda had bribed the bank tellers to bypass the dual-signature requirement.

He admitted that Gemma had faked the pregnancy test using a sample from a patient at her clinic to force the rushed marriage.

Just as Andrew finished his miserable confession, two heavy-set security guards burst into the room.

But they were not alone.

Gemma walked in right behind them, accompanied by two uniformed police officers.

She was not running away with the money at all.

"There he is, officers!" Gemma shrieked, pointing a dramatic, trembling finger directly at Andrew.

"He beat me, stole my life savings, and came here to threaten his psychotic ex-fiancée!"

The officers immediately grabbed Andrew, slamming him against the wall to handcuff him.

"She's lying!" Andrew screamed, fighting against the officers as they dragged him out the door.

Gemma turned to look at me, a smug, victorious smirk playing on her lips.

"He was becoming a liability, Samantha, so I decided to take out the trash," Gemma whispered so only I could hear.

"Now I have your house, your money, and sole victim status."

She turned to leave, but Zachary casually stepped in front of the doorway, blocking her path.

"Actually, Miss Salas, you don't have the money," Zachary smiled, holding up a federal banking document.

"I had the federal court freeze all of Brenda's shell accounts an hour ago, meaning you are currently completely broke."
