Chapter 3 - The Hostile Takeover

I read the email three times, refusing to believe the words on the glowing screen.

Andrew had secretly transferred the deed to my luxury condo into Gemma's name two weeks ago.

I was officially homeless, penniless, and sitting in a diner in a bloodstained wedding dress.

"They want to destroy you so completely that you can't afford to fight back," Zachary stated, reading the email over my shoulder.

"I have to go to the apartment right now," I said, grabbing my purse and rushing toward the door.

Zachary did not argue, he simply opened the passenger door of his car and drove me straight to my building.

When we arrived on the fourteenth floor, I found my front door wide open.

Andrew and Brenda were standing in my living room, tossing my clothes into cheap black trash bags.

"What the hell are you doing in my house?" I screamed, stepping into the entryway.

Brenda turned around, a wicked, triumphant smile spreading across her wrinkled face.

"It is not your house anymore, sweetheart," Brenda sneered, dropping a handful of my expensive shoes into a bag.

"Gemma is the legal owner now, and she does not want trash littering her new home."

Andrew finally had the nerve to look me in the eye.

"You should leave, Samantha, before I call the police for trespassing."

I took a step toward the man I had loved for two years, feeling nothing but absolute disgust.

"You forged my signature and stole three hundred thousand dollars from me, Andrew."

"I am going to put you in prison," I promised him, my voice dangerously calm.

Andrew laughed, a cold, arrogant sound that echoed in the empty hallway.

"You can't afford a lawyer to prove it," he mocked.

"Besides, you have much bigger problems to worry about right now."

My phone rang loudly, breaking the tense silence in the room.

It was the Chief of Surgery from St. Luke Memorial Hospital.

"Dr. Miller, you are suspended effective immediately pending an investigation into your medical negligence," the Chief announced coldly.
