Chapter 6 - The Ugly Truth

The blackmail video felt like a physical punch to the gut.
Gemma knew my deepest, most painful secret.
I had suffered two tragic miscarriages during my relationship with Andrew, a trauma that had nearly broken my spirit.
Using my heartbreak as a weapon to protect their stolen money was a level of evil I could not even comprehend.
"Don't let them get into your head," Zachary said softly, taking the phone from my trembling hands.
"They are panicking because they know we are coming for them."
I took a deep breath, forcing the tears back down.
"I am not dropping the lawsuits," I declared, my voice hardening into steel.
"I want them to lose everything."
Marcus, the lead attorney, nodded approvingly and immediately filed the asset-freeze injunction with the federal court.
That afternoon, Zachary and I went to St. Luke Memorial Hospital to check on Paisley.
She was awake, sitting up in her hospital bed and coloring a picture of a bright yellow sun.
"Dr. Samantha!" Paisley cheered, offering me a weak but beautiful smile.
Seeing her alive and recovering instantly reminded me why I had sacrificed my wedding in the first place.
Zachary stood beside me, his hand gently brushing against mine.
"You gave me my daughter back," he whispered, his eyes filled with a deep, genuine affection.
For a brief, quiet moment, I felt a spark of real connection, something I had never truly felt with Andrew.
Our moment was brutally interrupted by the sound of shouting in the hospital hallway.
The door to Paisley's room flew open, and Andrew stumbled inside, looking completely disheveled and frantic.
"Samantha, you have to help me!" Andrew begged, falling to his knees right in front of the hospital bed.
I stepped in front of Paisley, shielding her from his chaotic energy.
"Get out of here before I call security," I warned him coldly.
Andrew reached out, trying to grab my hand.

"Gemma locked me out of the new house and emptied the shell accounts this morning!" he cried frantically.
"She took all the money and ran, Samantha, she played both of us!"
