Chapter 7 - The Matriarch's Stand

Evelyn instinctually backed away from the security monitor, placing a protective hand over her belly.

The private security guards outside immediately drew their weapons and took defensive positions.

Rachel grabbed her cell phone to call the local police, her fingers trembling wildly.

Eleanor did not panic, nor did she show a single ounce of fear.

The older woman walked calmly toward the antique display case in the main hallway.

She unlocked the glass cabinet and retrieved Richard Carter's beautifully engraved hunting rifle.

"Mom, what are you doing?" Rachel asked, staring at her mother in complete shock.

Eleanor efficiently loaded two heavy shells into the chamber with a satisfying click.

"I spent thirty years protecting this family from ruthless monsters," Eleanor said coldly.

Eleanor confidently opened the heavy oak front door and stepped out onto the porch.

Marcus had already rammed his heavy truck through the beautiful wrought-iron security gates.

He stepped out of the ruined vehicle, pumping his shotgun menacingly toward the house.

"Where is the money that your bastard son stole from my wife?" Marcus screamed furiously.

Eleanor calmly raised the heavy hunting rifle and aimed it directly at his chest.

"Your wife is a highly skilled corporate parasite who played you for a fool," Eleanor stated loudly.

Marcus laughed darkly, aiming his weapon right back at the elegant older woman.

"I don't care about her lies, I just want the fifty million dollars," he demanded violently.

"If you take one more step onto my grass, I will end your miserable life," Eleanor promised without flinching.

Marcus sneered and aggressively took a heavy step forward onto the pristine lawn.

Eleanor did not hesitate for even a fraction of a second.

She pulled the trigger, firing a warning shot that completely obliterated the truck's windshield.

Marcus dropped his shotgun in sheer terror, diving into the muddy grass for cover.

Police sirens suddenly wailed in the distance, growing louder as dozens of squad cars approached.

The private guards rushed forward and pinned the terrified loan shark to the muddy ground.

Evelyn watched from the window, absolutely in awe of her mother-in-law's fierce strength.

Suddenly, a massive, tearing pain ripped violently through Evelyn's lower back.

Her water broke, heavily soaking the expensive Persian rug beneath her feet.
