Chapter 3 - The Secret Trust

The emergency room plunged into absolute darkness for ten terrifying seconds.
Evelyn held her breath, silently praying her baby's heart was still beating.
The red emergency backup lights finally flickered on, casting a bloody glow over the room.
Eleanor immediately pulled out her cell phone to call her private security team.
"Someone just tried to cut the power to the neonatal ward," Eleanor reported coldly.
The doctor manually checked Evelyn's vitals, visibly relieved that the medication was working.
The violent contractions were finally beginning to slow down and space out.
A heavy fist pounded furiously against the locked glass door of the trauma room.
Nathan was standing in the red emergency light, demanding to be let inside.
Eleanor walked over to the door and spoke through the small intercom system.
"You brought a murderer into our family home, Nathan," Eleanor stated flatly.
"Mom, you are being completely hysterical," Nathan's voice cracked over the speaker.
"Brooke is just a consultant, she would never hurt Evelyn," he pleaded blindly.
Eleanor pulled a thick legal document from her designer handbag and pressed it against the glass.
"Your father knew you were a reckless fool, Nathan," Eleanor said without an ounce of pity.
Nathan squinted at the complex legal text illuminated by the emergency lights.
It was the master deed and financial trust for the entire Carter family empire.
Nathan's name was not listed anywhere as the primary beneficiary.
"Dad left everything to me before he died," Nathan argued, his voice shaking with sudden fear.
"He left the operating company to you, but he left all the capital assets to Evelyn," Eleanor corrected him.
Nathan stared at his mother in absolute horror as his entire world shattered.
He did not own the Greenwich estate, the offshore accounts, or the luxury properties.
Evelyn owned absolutely every single piece of his luxurious billionaire lifestyle.
If Evelyn divorced him today, Nathan would walk away with absolutely nothing but a failing company.
"You are completely broke, my arrogant son," Eleanor whispered mercilessly.
Nathan staggered backward into the hallway, clutching his chest in panic.
Brooke suddenly appeared behind him, her perfectly styled hair slightly disheveled.
"Nathan, darling, I just found out the most amazing news," Brooke smiled widely.

Brooke placed a delicate hand on her perfectly flat stomach.
"I am pregnant with your child too," Brooke announced loudly enough for everyone to hear.
