Chapter 6 - The Ultimate Betrayal

Nathan screamed Brooke's name as the federal agents forcefully pinned him against his own mahogany desk.

Brooke did not even bother to look back as she casually strolled out the front door.

She climbed into a waiting black town car, leaving Nathan to entirely face the consequences alone.

The metallic click of the handcuffs echoed the final, pathetic end of Nathan's arrogant reign.

Back at the hospital, Evelyn watched the breaking news on the small television screen.

Helicopter footage showed Nathan being aggressively shoved into the back of a federal vehicle.

Evelyn felt a strange sense of absolute peace wash over her tired body.

She had spent eleven years endlessly cleaning up Nathan's reckless messes.

Today, she finally let him drown in the toxic ocean he had created himself.

The doctor walked into the room with a warm, genuinely reassuring smile.

"Your blood pressure is completely normal, and the baby is perfectly stable," the doctor announced.

Evelyn was officially cleared to leave the hospital and return to her peaceful home.

Eleanor and Rachel hired a private security detail to escort Evelyn safely back to Greenwich.

When they arrived at the sprawling estate, the house felt wonderfully quiet and cleansed.

Evelyn walked into the master bedroom and immediately threw all of Nathan's clothes into the hallway.

She carefully arranged the beautiful nursery, focusing entirely on the beautiful future of her unborn son.

Her peaceful evening was abruptly shattered by the loud buzzing of the front gate intercom.

Rachel answered the security panel, expecting to see a reporter or a lost delivery driver.

Instead, the high-definition security camera showed a terrifyingly large man covered in prison tattoos.

"Open the gate right now, or I will burn this massive house to the ground," the violent man threatened.

Evelyn recognized the man instantly from the private investigator's secret files.

It was Marcus Vance, Brooke's legally married husband and a highly dangerous loan shark.

Brooke had actually stolen the fifty million dollars from Marcus, and she had blamed the theft on the Carters.

Marcus pulled a heavy tactical shotgun from his long trench coat and aimed it at the camera.

"You have exactly two minutes to give me my money before I start shooting," Marcus roared.
