Chapter 7 - The True Grace

Daniel waited until the house was completely silent and Vanessa had locked herself in the master bathroom.

He walked down to the staff quarters and knocked softly on Grace's bedroom door.

She opened the door a few seconds later, holding a small, packed duffel bag in her hand.

She was preparing to run away into the night.

"You cannot leave, Grace," Daniel said, stepping into the small room and closing the door behind him.

Grace dropped the bag onto her narrow bed and buried her face in her hands.

"If I stay here, they are going to kill me and take my daughter," she sobbed uncontrollably.

Daniel placed a comforting hand on her trembling shoulder.

"Who was that man at the door, and why did he call you Elena?" Daniel asked gently.

Grace took a ragged breath and wiped the tears from her exhausted face.

"My real name is Elena Rossi," she confessed, her voice barely above a terrified whisper.

"Five years ago, I ran away from my abusive husband in Chicago."

She looked up at Daniel, her eyes filled with years of hidden trauma and absolute fear.

"He is a high-ranking enforcer for the exact same criminal syndicate that Vanessa owes millions of dollars to."

Daniel felt the walls of the small room closing in around him.

The violent syndicate had not just stumbled into his life by accident.

"I changed my name and hid here to protect my daughter, Lily," Grace explained through her tears.

"But my ex-husband is the one who originally introduced Vanessa to you at that charity dinner."

The horrifying truth finally locked perfectly into place in Daniel's mind.

Vanessa was not a random gold digger who got in over her head.

The entire relationship had been a calculated, professional assassination plot from the very first day they met.

Grace had unknowingly been working in the very house her abusive ex-husband was planning to rob.

"They are going to kill us both by Friday," Grace cried, reaching for her duffel bag again.

Daniel grabbed the bag and tossed it firmly onto the floor.

He was no longer a confused victim lying helplessly on a marble floor.

He was a ruthless billionaire who had destroyed massive corporations with a single phone call.

"Nobody is going to touch you or your daughter," Daniel promised her with lethal conviction.

"I am going to burn their entire syndicate to the ground."
