Chapter 4 - The Ransom Demand

We rushed Leo to a local urgent care clinic to stabilize him with temporary hospital supplies.
Once the doctors assured me he was safe for a few hours, I left the children under Graham's watchful eye.
I took a taxi to the Grand Hotel, my fists clenched in absolute fury.
I walked into the luxurious penthouse suite, fully prepared to fight for my family's survival.
Victoria was sitting on a velvet sofa, delicately sipping a glass of expensive champagne.
Next to her designer shoes sat my battered blue suitcase.
She slid a thick stack of legal papers across the glass coffee table toward me.
“Sign away your parental rights, Emily, and you can have the medicine,” she smiled.
I stared at the custody documents in absolute disgust.
“You are a complete monster,” I whispered.
Victoria laughed softly and took another sip of her champagne.
“I am a woman who cannot have children, and my family desperately needs heirs to secure our corporate dynasty,” she explained.
“Graham signed an ironclad contract when we merged our massive companies.”
“If he does not produce an heir with me, my father gets full control of his entire real estate empire.”
The heavy mahogany door to the penthouse suddenly burst open.
Graham stormed into the room, his eyes blazing with unbridled fury.
He marched straight to the coffee table and ripped the custody papers completely in half.
“I am not giving you my children, Victoria,” he snarled.
Victoria did not even flinch at his aggressive display of dominance.
She simply reached into her designer purse and pulled out a small black USB drive.
“Are you sure about that, darling?” she asked.
“This drive contains the forged financial records my father planted deep inside your private servers.”
Graham froze, his broad shoulders tensing defensively.
“If you leave me for this pathetic woman, I will hand this over to the federal authorities immediately,” Victoria threatened.
“You will lose your billions, your company, and you will spend the next twenty years in a federal prison.”
Victoria smiled warmly at me, enjoying every second of the torture.
“He has to choose right now,” she said.

Graham looked at me, his eyes filled with an agonizing, heartbreaking sorrow.
“I am sorry, Emily,” he whispered.
