Chapter 6 - The Ghost

Liam released the terrified nurse and sprinted out of the hospital room.

He realized the plane crash was a massive, expensive cover-up designed by his mother.

Eleanor faked her own death to escape the police and operate completely in the shadows.

Liam ran to his truck and frantically opened his phone's tracking application.

He had synced his smartwatch to Sarah's phone months ago for safety reasons.

A small green dot blinked on the digital map, moving rapidly toward the industrial district.

He shifted the truck into gear and sped aggressively through the city traffic.

He ignored red lights and stop signs, desperate to save his kidnapped wife.

The tracking signal finally stopped at an abandoned shipping yard near the docks.

Liam parked his truck behind a stack of rusted shipping containers.

He grabbed a heavy steel tire iron from his backseat and crept toward the location.

The green dot led him to a massive, decaying warehouse covered in graffiti.

He quietly slipped through a broken side door, gripping the tire iron tightly.

The inside of the warehouse was incredibly dark and smelled strongly of seawater.

He heard muffled crying coming from the center of the massive room.

He crept behind a concrete pillar and peeked into the dimly lit clearing.

Sarah was tied tightly to a wooden chair, her mouth covered with silver duct tape.

She looked terrified, crying as she struggled against the thick ropes.

Liam stepped out from behind the pillar and rushed toward her.

"I am right here, sweetheart," he whispered, pulling out his pocket knife to cut the ropes.

Before the blade even touched the rope, a blinding spotlight snapped on above them.

Liam dropped the knife, momentarily blinded by the intense glare.

Heavy footsteps echoed against the concrete floor, walking slowly out of the darkness.

A tall man in a tailored suit stepped into the light, holding a suppressed pistol.

It was not Eleanor.

It was Arthur Vance, the lawyer.

"Your mother sends her regards," Arthur sneered, aiming the gun at Liam's chest.
