Chapter 3 - The Hidden Truth

A team of doctors rushed past Liam and sprinted into Sarah's hospital room.
Liam scrambled to his feet and stared through the small glass window in the door.
A nurse was frantically pumping Sarah's chest while another charged a defibrillator.
"Clear!" the lead doctor shouted, sending a massive shock into Sarah's body.
Her delicate frame violently jolted off the hospital bed, but the monitor remained flat.
Liam slammed his fists against the glass, screaming her name over and over again.
"Charge it again!" the doctor yelled, refusing to give up on her.
The second shock hit, and a faint, erratic beep finally registered on the machine.
Liam slumped against the wall, completely drained of all physical and emotional strength.
He swore in that very moment that he would destroy his mother for doing this.
Hours later, Sarah finally stabilized and fell into a deep, medically induced sleep.
Liam kissed her forehead and promised he would bring their son back.
He left the hospital and drove furiously back to their ruined suburban house.
The property was entirely dark and completely surrounded by yellow police tape.
He ducked under the tape and unlocked the front door with his keys.
The house felt terrifyingly cold and empty without the sounds of his family.
He walked upstairs to the nursery to gather clothes and toys for the CPS workers.
As he packed a small bag, he noticed a faint, blinking red light inside the air vent.
Liam grabbed a screwdriver from his pocket and pried the metal grate off the wall.
Hidden perfectly inside the duct was a high-tech, motion-activated security camera.
Liam realized his mother must have installed it weeks ago to spy on them.
He pulled the camera down and eagerly ejected the tiny memory card.
He plugged the card into his laptop, praying it captured the truth of the attack.
The video file loaded, showing the nursery clearly in black and white.
He watched the footage of his mother viciously attacking his wife.
But the camera had also captured something far more important ten minutes earlier.

It clearly showed Eleanor pulling the fake medical documents from her own purse.
She carefully placed the forged papers into the crib before Sarah ever walked into the room.
