Chapter 7 - The Hostage Crisis

The collective gasp in the room was entirely deafening.
David instantly drew his own weapon, pointing it directly at Richard's chest.
"Put the gun down right now, Richard, or I will drop you where you stand," David commanded forcefully.
"If you shoot me, my finger pulls this trigger, and one of these brats dies instantly," Richard threatened.
I pushed my four terrified children firmly behind the heavy, solid oak dining table.
Patricia was sobbing hysterically on the floor, finally realizing her husband was a complete psychopath.
Chief Miller slowly raised his hands and began backing slowly toward the kitchen exit.
"I didn't sign up for a multiple homicide, Richard, I am entirely out of this," the corrupt chief stammered.
"Nobody leaves!" Richard roared, waving the heavy gun aggressively around the room.
Marcus slowly pushed himself up from the floor, still twitching slightly from the taser shock.
He looked at the yellowed documents scattered on the floor, and then at his father holding the gun.
"You actually killed her parents, Dad?" Marcus asked, his voice filled with absolute horror.
"I built this massive empire for you, you ungrateful disappointment!" Richard screamed back at him.
In a rare moment of actual bravery, Marcus suddenly lunged aggressively at his own father.
He grabbed Richard's wrist violently, wrestling fiercely for control of the deadly weapon.
The two men crashed heavily into the glass coffee table, completely shattering it into a million pieces.
David shouted for everyone to stay back, unable to take a clean shot while they wrestled wildly.
A deafening gunshot echoed through the grand living room, stopping everyone's heart completely.
Silence descended heavily as both men completely stopped moving on the floor.
A terrifying moment passed before Marcus slowly sat up from the broken glass.
Richard was lying completely still, totally unconscious from a heavy blow to the head.
Marcus stood up slowly, breathing heavily, and holding the black handgun securely in his hand.

We all let out a massive sigh of absolute relief, believing the terrifying crisis was finally over.
But then Marcus slowly raised the weapon and pointed it directly at my chest.
