Chapter 5 - The Hidden Evidence

The revelation hit the room like a massive, physical shockwave.

Patricia shrieked loudly and backed away until she hit the marble fireplace.

Richard stared at the undercover FBI agent with absolute, unfiltered terror.

"You have been sleeping in my house for six months just to spy on us?" Marcus groaned from the floor.

"I had to find the encrypted flash drive your father uses to hide his offshore accounts," Ashley explained coldly.

"And I finally know exactly where it is."

Ashley pointed directly at the dropped velvet ring box still resting near the front door.

"He hid the microchip behind the diamond ring he was planning to give me today," Ashley revealed.

Everyone’s eyes instantly darted toward the small, innocent-looking black box.

Patricia moved with a terrifying, desperate speed I had never seen before.

She dove aggressively across the rug, snatching the small ring box tightly in her fist.

"You will never destroy our family legacy!" Patricia screamed like a madwoman.

She spun around and sprinted directly toward the massive, roaring fire in the stone fireplace.

She fully intended to throw the box into the flames and completely melt the digital evidence.

Before any of the state troopers could react, my tiny daughter Olivia stuck her foot out.

Patricia tripped clumsily over Olivia's small shoe and went flying entirely out of control.

Patricia crashed heavily into the decorative stone wall right next to the fireplace.

The heavy impact knocked a loose stone completely out of place.

The ring box skittered harmlessly across the floor, and David quickly scooped it up.

But the missing stone on the wall revealed something far more dangerous.

A hidden, electronic safe was built perfectly into the dark masonry of the chimney.

The heavy impact had caused the old, damaged locking mechanism to pop open.

A thick stack of yellowed, highly classified documents spilled out onto the floor.

Ashley walked over cautiously and picked up the top piece of paper.

As she read the first paragraph, the color completely drained from her professional face.

"Kesha, you desperately need to see this right now," Ashley whispered, her voice trembling.
