Chapter 7 - The Hostile Takeover

Thick gray smoke poured into the underground laboratory as heavy boots crunched over the shattered stone.
Six heavily armed mercenaries stormed into the room, their assault rifles equipped with blinding tactical lights.
Elara backed away, her weak legs trembling as the reality of her father's cruelty finally took hold.
The boy stepped in front of her, instinctively trying to shield her with his injured body.
A tall man in a tailored black suit stepped through the smoke, clapping his hands in a slow, mocking rhythm.
It was her father, his face twisted into a smug, victorious sneer.
I must admit, you put up a much better fight than your pathetic grandfather did.
The father gestured vaguely to his armed men.
Kill the boy and secure the girl for transport.
The mercenaries raised their weapons, their fingers tightening aggressively on the triggers.
Before they could fire, a massive white blur launched from the shadows of the cave tunnel.
Ghost slammed into the nearest mercenary, crushing the man’s ribcage with a devastating kick from his front hooves.
The massive stallion bit down on another guard's rifle, violently twisting the weapon out of his hands.
The cave erupted into absolute chaos as the guards scrambled to aim at the raging beast.
Do not shoot the horse, you absolute idiots.
The father screamed, desperate to protect his million-dollar investment.
But panic had entirely consumed the mercenary team.
A single, deafening gunshot echoed through the confined underground space.
Ghost froze, a terrible, agonizing sound tearing from his throat.
A crimson stain blossomed violently across the beautiful white coat of the stallion’s broad chest.
The magnificent horse collapsed onto the cold stone floor, his breathing instantly turning ragged and shallow.
Elara screamed, dropping to her knees beside the dying animal.
The boy let out a roar of absolute fury, a massive surge of kinetic energy rippling from his good hand.
He threw two mercenaries across the room, smashing them violently into the ancient laboratory equipment.
But a third mercenary struck the boy in the back of the head with the heavy steel stock of his rifle.
The boy crumbled to the ground, entirely unconscious before he even hit the dirt.
Elara tried to crawl toward him, but her father grabbed her roughly by the throat.
He plunged a fresh syringe of the thick blue paralytic directly into her shoulder.

You had your little adventure, Elara, but tomorrow you sign the papers.
The icy poison flooded her veins, and the terrifying darkness dragged her forcefully back into the abyss.
