Chapter 19 - The Collapse of the Mountain

The entire Syndicate fortress shook violently as Elara systematically dissolved the reinforced support pillars of the underground facility.
She walked slowly down the sterile white hallways, a terrifying angel of death leaving nothing but black ash and rusted metal in her wake.
Heavily armored guards fired thousands of rounds at her, but the bullets simply dissolved into harmless gray dust before they ever reached her skin.
She was losing control of the power, the purple energy completely flooding her mind and drowning out her human compassion.
Suddenly, a massive, explosive shockwave shattered the primary hangar doors at the end of the long corridor.
Silas rode into the facility on the back of the massive white stallion, a blinding aura of green energy shielding them from the falling debris.
He leaped from the horse, running straight into the lethal, toxic purple aura radiating from Elara’s trembling body.
Elara screamed, trying desperately to back away from him to prevent the energies from colliding and killing them both.
Stay away from me, Silas, I cannot stop it anymore.
Silas did not stop, ignoring the agonizing, burning pain as the purple rot began eating away at his heavy jacket.
He reached her, wrapping his arms tightly around her waist, pulling her flush against his chest despite the violent, explosive sparks crackling between them.
I know how to fix it, Elara, but you have to let go of the fear and pull the energy directly from my chest.
He pressed his glowing green palm directly over her heart, forcing his own life force to aggressively flow into her veins.
The purple energy in her blood shrieked like a dying animal, fighting violently against the pure, kinetic light invading its space.
Elara felt an agonizing, tearing sensation in her soul as she instinctively began absorbing his strength, draining him like a biological battery.
Silas dropped to his knees, his skin turning dangerously pale as the brilliant green light in his eyes rapidly began to fade.
Stop it, you are dying, Silas, please stop.
She tried to push him away, crying in absolute terror, but he held onto her with a grip forged in pure, unbreakable love.
Just let it finish, Elara, you are going to be free.
With a final, massive surge of brilliant light, the purple rot in Elara’s veins was completely neutralized, washed away by the kinetic sacrifice.

A massive, silent shockwave pulsed through the hallway, shattering all the glass in the facility and throwing Commander Graves violently against the wall.
When the blinding dust finally cleared, Elara was kneeling on the floor, holding Silas's lifeless, perfectly still body in her arms.
