HE HORSE WASN'T THE MONSTER / Chapter 3 / 20

Chapter 3 - The Broken Vow

Elara froze in terror as her father stepped into the dim light of the cellar.

He was holding a large syringe filled with a concentrated, glowing purple liquid.

I have worked too hard to build this empire to let a dirty street rat ruin my investment.

He marched toward her, his eyes entirely devoid of any paternal warmth.

The boy in the cage suddenly grabbed the iron bars, his knuckles turning pure white.

If you touch her, I will tear this house down to its foundations.

The father laughed cruelly, ignoring the boy and grabbing the armrest of Elara’s wheelchair.

It is time for your permanent dosage, my sweet, fragile daughter.

Elara screamed and slapped her father’s hand away with a sudden burst of adrenaline.

She twisted her body, trying to throw herself out of the chair onto the cold stone floor.

Her father grabbed her by the hair, violently yanking her head back to expose her neck.

He raised the lethal purple syringe, the needle gleaming under the flickering bulb.

The boy closed his eyes, and a massive, invisible wave of kinetic energy exploded from his body.

The heavy steel hinges of the cage groaned, warped, and violently snapped apart.

The iron door blasted outward, striking the father squarely in the chest and knocking him backward.

The syringe shattered against the stone floor, the purple liquid hissing as it melted the ancient grout.

The boy stepped out of the ruined cage, the air around him crackling with an impossible, static charge.

Elara gasped for breath, holding her bruised scalp as she stared at her savior.

We need to leave right now, before the main security forces arrive.

He grabbed the handles of her wheelchair and spun her toward the service elevator.

Alarms began blaring throughout the massive estate, bathing the cellar in flashing red emergency lights.

They reached the ground floor just as six armed guards flooded into the main hallway.

The guards raised their weapons, their laser sights painting small red dots across the boy's chest.

Drop to your knees and step away from the girl.

The boy did not surrender, but instead placed his bare hands flat against the polished oak floorboards.

He let out a sharp, piercing whistle that cut completely through the wailing sirens.

The massive glass windows at the end of the hallway suddenly shattered inward in a shower of brilliant diamonds.

Ghost, the massive white stallion, leaped through the broken frame with a terrifying, primal scream.

The horse trampled the two closest guards, tossing them aside like broken ragdolls.

The boy scooped Elara out of her wheelchair, his surprising strength lifting her effortlessly into the air.

He threw her onto the horse’s bare back and vaulted up behind her.

As they charged back out into the night, Elara heard the unmistakable mechanical click of a sniper rifle being chambered from the balcony above.
