Chapter 13 - The Collision of Souls

A heavy, unnatural thunderstorm hammered the roof of the estate when Elara finally returned from the penitentiary.

She walked into the grand foyer, dripping wet, her leather gloves soaked entirely through with cold rain.

Silas was waiting for her at the bottom of the grand marble staircase, his arms crossed over his chest.

He did not look angry, but his glowing green eyes were fixed on the deep purple veins throbbing faintly against her neck.

You went to see him, didn't you.

Elara flinched, instinctively pulling the collar of her wet coat up to hide the terrifying mutation spreading through her body.

I had to know the truth, Silas, I had to know why my body is turning into this nightmare.

She took a step back as Silas approached, absolutely terrified that if she accidentally touched him, she would kill him on the spot.

Do not come any closer to me, you have no idea what I am capable of doing right now.

Silas ignored her warning, stepping into her personal space with the calm, fearless grace of a wild animal.

My grandfather’s journals in the underground cave mentioned a dark mirror to my kinetic energy.

He said that life and death were two sides of the exact same biological coin, and that one could not exist without the other.

He reached out, his hand glowing with the warm, vibrant green light that had saved her from the fire.

Let me help you balance it, Elara, just let me try to neutralize the rot before it reaches your heart.

Before she could pull away, Silas gently placed his glowing green hand against her trembling, rain-soaked cheek.

The moment his skin touched hers, a catastrophic explosion of raw, opposing energies detonated between them.

A blinding shockwave of green and purple light blasted through the grand foyer, shattering the massive crystal chandelier above them.

Elara was thrown violently backward, crashing into the heavy oak doors, while Silas was launched across the room into the marble banister.

The entire house shook as if hit by an earthquake, the ancient plaster cracking and raining down around them.

Elara gasped for breath, looking down at her hands, where the purple energy was now flaring wildly, completely out of control.

Silas groaned in pain, clutching his ribs as he forced himself to stand up from the ruined floorboards.

We cannot touch each other, Elara.

May you like

His voice was laced with a deep, heartbreaking sorrow as he looked at the devastating crater they had just created.

Our energies are in absolute, terminal conflict, and if we try to merge them again, it will kill us both.
