Chapter 5 - The Master Manipulator

The federal agents immediately surrounded Vanessa and Eleanor.
Eleanor screamed hysterically, demanding that Nathan use his connections to stop the arrest.
Nathan tried to quietly slip out the back exit, but two agents tackled him roughly to the floor.
I stood on the stage and watched with absolute satisfaction as my abusers were placed in cold steel handcuffs.
The lead agent approached me and politely asked me to come down to the station to provide an official statement.
I agreed willingly, feeling a massive weight finally lifting off my shoulders.
I spent three hours in the precinct, carefully detailing every single aspect of their financial crimes.
When I finally walked out of the interrogation room, I expected to see Nathan locked in a holding cell.
Instead, I saw him sitting comfortably in the lobby, drinking a cup of coffee.
He was wearing a fresh suit, and his smug, arrogant smile had completely returned.
He stood up and slowly walked over to me, clapping his hands in mock applause.
He told me my little public stunt at the gala was highly entertaining but ultimately useless.
I asked him how he managed to escape federal custody so quickly.
Nathan proudly revealed that he had officially turned state's evidence against his own mother and sister.
He had signed a full immunity deal by completely throwing Eleanor and Vanessa under the bus.
He claimed they were the sole masterminds behind the fraud, and he was just an innocent victim of their manipulation.
He leaned in close to my ear and whispered that he still had my two million dollars safely hidden away.
He confidently stated that I had absolutely no legal way to touch him now.

I smiled calmly and told him to check his phone.
His face lost all its color as he stared at the new email glowing brightly on his screen.
