Chapter 9 - The Harbor Showdown

The FBI tracked Evelyn’s getaway vehicle to a private, industrial shipping harbor on the edge of the city.
I rode in the passenger seat of the lead armored pursuit vehicle, refusing to stay behind while the baby was in danger.
We arrived at the docks just as a massive, heavily armed cartel yacht began untying its mooring lines.
Evelyn was standing on the rear deck of the luxurious boat, holding the crying newborn wrapped in a blue blanket.
She yelled at the federal agents to stay back, threatening to drop the child into the freezing ocean if they approached.
The tactical commander ordered his snipers to stand down, completely paralyzed by the extreme hostage situation.
I pulled out my laptop and rapidly connected to the federal banking network using my highest security clearance.
I remembered tracking the specific financial wire transfer that Evelyn had used to purchase this exact yacht.
I accessed the boat’s internal digital registry through the manufacturer's satellite system.
My fingers flew across the keyboard as I initiated an emergency remote shutdown of the yacht’s primary engines.
The massive boat suddenly lurched to a violent halt as all power was instantly cut from the control room.
Evelyn stumbled forward, losing her balance on the swaying deck and nearly dropping the fragile baby.
Before she could recover, a police transport van suddenly crashed through the harbor security gates.
Daniel had convinced the transport officers to bring him to the docks to negotiate with his mother.
He broke free from the guards, sprinting down the wooden pier with his hands still cuffed in front of him.
He leaped across the open water and crashed violently onto the deck of the stalled yacht.

Daniel slammed his own mother against the metal railing, using his cuffed hands to rip the baby safely from her arms.
He shielded his son with his body just as the FBI tactical teams swarmed the deck from all sides.
