Chapter 8 - The Coronado Standoff

The black SUV tore down the coastal highway, the tires screaming violently as Marcus took the sharp corners at terrifying speeds.

The sun was rapidly setting, casting long, bloody shadows across the shimmering surface of the Pacific Ocean.

Colin was planning to completely demolish the historic beach house to make it look like a tragic, accidental gas explosion.

With Nora supposedly inside during the blast, he would inherit the massive insurance payout and the prime, vacant oceanfront land.

We pulled into a dark, hidden access road about half a mile away from the heavily guarded Coronado property.

Marcus opened the trunk of the SUV and handed me a heavy, bulletproof tactical vest and a loaded semi-automatic weapon.

I had never held a gun in my entire life, but the terrifying thought of losing my daughter erased absolutely all of my fear.

We moved silently through the thick, salty sea grass, keeping our bodies incredibly low to avoid the private security patrols.

The massive, multi-million dollar beach house loomed in the distance, fully illuminated by bright construction floodlights.

I could see heavy demolition equipment parked aggressively on the pristine front lawn, waiting for the final, deadly signal.

Marcus used a silenced weapon to efficiently neutralize the two armed guards standing near the back patio entrance.

We slipped quietly through the sliding glass doors, stepping into the massive, elegantly decorated living room I remembered so well.

The house was eerily silent, save for the rhythmic crashing of the ocean waves against the wooden bulkheads outside.

We crept up the grand sweeping staircase, checking every single luxurious bedroom for any sign of my daughter.

When we reached the top floor, I heard a faint, muffled crying sound coming from the locked master bedroom.

I completely ignored Marcus's silent hand signals and violently kicked the heavy wooden door open with all my strength.

Vanessa was standing near the large ocean-facing window, aggressively holding a terrified Nora by her fragile arm.

Doctor Colin Vance was sitting calmly at the antique writing desk, preparing a massive, lethal syringe of the experimental poison.

"Ah, the persistent, grieving father finally arrives to witness the grand finale," Colin sneered with absolute, sociopathic arrogance.

I immediately raised my weapon, pointing the barrel directly at the center of the corrupt doctor's forehead.

"Let my daughter go right now, or I will blow your brains all over this expensive wallpaper," I threatened with absolute, deadly sincerity.

Vanessa just laughed, completely unfazed by the heavy weapon trembling slightly in my sweaty hands.

She violently yanked Nora closer to her side and pulled a small, remote detonator from her designer pocket.

"If you pull that trigger, Ethan, I will detonate the plastic explosives wired directly to the foundation of this house."

May you like

Colin stood up slowly, tapping the glass syringe with a sickening, victorious smile.

"Now drop the gun, Ethan, or we all burn together right now."
