Chapter 6 - The Unlikely Ally

The heavily armed police officers swarmed into the tiny apartment, their flashlights blinding Emily and her mother.
They aggressively pushed Emily against the wall, tightly securing cold metal handcuffs around her slender wrists.
“You are under arrest for grand theft and wire fraud against the Crestwood School District,” the lead detective stated firmly.
Emily’s mother screamed and tried to intervene, but another officer physically restrained her on the sofa.
Noah slipped quietly into the shadows of the cramped hallway, desperately trying to remain entirely unseen by the police.
They dragged Emily out of the apartment building and shoved her roughly into the back of a waiting squad car.
She sat in the cramped, plastic seat, tears streaming down her face as she realized the principal had completely outsmarted her.
At the police precinct, Emily was thrown into a cold, concrete interrogation room that smelled strongly of bleach.
She waited for three agonizing hours, refusing to answer any questions without a public defender present.
Finally, the heavy metal door swung open, but it was not a police detective or a lawyer who walked inside.
A tall woman in a sharp, expensive grey suit stepped into the room and gently closed the door behind her.
“My name is Victoria Vance, I am Principal Vance’s ex-wife, and I am the attorney representing your mother,” the woman said calmly.
Emily looked up in absolute shock, unable to comprehend why the principal's ex-wife would ever help her.
“Why are you here, are you trying to trick me into a confession?” Emily asked defensively, shrinking back into her chair.
Victoria pulled out a sleek tablet and placed it face up on the metal table between them.
“My ex-husband destroyed my career and stole my life savings to fund his illegal schemes five years ago,” Victoria explained coldly.
“I have been waiting a very long time for him to make a mistake, and messing with a brilliant student like you was his fatal error.”
Victoria tapped the tablet screen, showing Emily a live security feed of the school’s main administrative office.
“I bailed you out, Emily, the paperwork is already being processed at the front desk,” the lawyer stated confidently.
“But we only have until tomorrow morning's school assembly to expose them before they completely wipe the district servers.”
“Noah has the flash drive with the financial ledgers,” Emily said quickly, leaning forward with sudden, desperate hope.
Victoria smiled, a sharp, predatory look that made her seem incredibly formidable and dangerous.
“Noah is already waiting in my car outside, but we need to break into the school tonight to project those files.”
“If we show the evidence to the entire school board during the assembly, they cannot cover it up,” Victoria concluded.
Emily stood up, wiping her eyes and feeling a fierce surge of determination replace her overwhelming fear.

As they walked out of the precinct, Emily’s phone suddenly buzzed with a text message from an unknown number.
The message read: "Victoria is lying to you, do not get in that car."
