Chapter 6 - The Trap is Set

I stared at the blinking red light with a sickening feeling of absolute dread settling in my stomach.
Grant was coming for us right now, and Julian was far too severely injured to fight him off.
I looked down at Julian’s pale, sweat-covered face and realized I had to become the protector tonight.
I gently laid Noah down on a soft pile of discarded maintenance jackets near the dark tunnel wall.
I grabbed Julian's heavy assault rifle and checked the massive magazine just as he had shown me earlier.
I placed the blinking GPS tracker directly in the center of the open subway platform to serve as bait.
I dragged Julian's heavy body behind a massive steel utility box to keep him completely hidden from view.
I climbed up onto an elevated metal catwalk that offered a perfect, terrifying sniper view of the entire room.
My heart hammered violently against my ribs as heavy, synchronized footsteps echoed down the dark tunnel.
Grant slowly walked onto the platform, completely surrounded by six heavily armed, elite guards.
He looked down at the blinking flash drive on the concrete floor and smiled a cold, victorious smile.
He shouted into the darkness, mocking my desperate attempts to hide from his absolute power.
He proudly announced that he had already transferred his private jet to the nearby runway for his ultimate escape.
I steadied my violently shaking hands and aimed the heavy rifle directly at the closest armed guard.
I squeezed the trigger, sending a deafening, incredibly powerful gunshot echoing through the underground cavern.
The guard fell instantly, and absolute chaos immediately erupted on the dark subway platform.
I fired again and again, utilizing the absolute element of total surprise to completely overwhelm the mercenaries.
Grant screamed in pure panic and desperately dove behind a concrete pillar to save his own pathetic life.

Suddenly, a cold, metallic gun barrel pressed firmly against the very back of my neck.
Vanessa stepped out from the shadows of the catwalk and softly whispered that I was finally out of time.
