Chapter 8 - The Twisted Trap

Daniel stumbled backward, blood pouring heavily from his broken nose as he temporarily lost his grip on the weapon.

Sarah did not hesitate for a single second, diving over the glass coffee table to reach Cole's discarded gun.

She scooped up the heavy weapon and pointed it directly at Daniel's chest, her hands remarkably steady.

Daniel wiped the blood from his mouth, laughing darkly as he looked at the two women he had deceived for years.

He arrogantly told Sarah that she did not have the courage to pull the trigger on the father of her child.

Sarah's face hardened into a mask of pure, icy hatred as she stared at the man she once loved.

She revealed that she had known about me for over a year, and she was the one who had anonymously mailed the embezzlement documents to Daniel's corporate office.

She had orchestrated his entire financial downfall to protect her real child, whom she had safely sent out of state days ago.

I stared at Sarah in total shock, realizing she was not a helpless victim at all, but a brilliant strategist.

Daniel let out a furious scream and lunged toward her, completely ignoring the loaded gun aimed at his heart.

Sarah pulled the trigger, but the weapon let out a hollow, metallic click instead of a deafening bang.

Daniel tackled her violently to the floor, wrapping his strong hands tightly around her throat.

Cole sprinted across the room, tackling Daniel off of Sarah and throwing massive punches into his jaw.

I grabbed the heavy bronze lamp from the end table and smashed it violently over the back of Daniel's head.

Daniel collapsed onto the floor, completely unconscious and bleeding heavily onto the expensive rug.

We tied his hands and feet with thick extension cords, finally securing the monster who had terrorized us both.

Just as I let out a massive sigh of relief, my cell phone buzzed brightly on the glass table with an incoming video call.

I answered the call, and my heart completely stopped when I saw a live video feed of my frail, elderly mother sitting tied to a chair.
