Chapter 8 - The Falling Brother

The high-caliber bullet shattered Matteo's shoulder instantly.
He screamed in agony, dropping his heavy pistol onto the wet concrete.
Alina broke free from his weakened grip and ran desperately toward my open arms.
I caught her and pushed her safely behind a stack of wooden pallets.
Matteo collapsed onto his knees, clutching his bleeding, ruined shoulder.
His private helicopter immediately lifted off the ground, abandoning him to save the pilot.
I walked slowly across the loading dock, keeping my weapon leveled at his chest.
"We were brothers, Matteo," I said, my voice thick with disgust and betrayal.
"You were always the favorite, Marco," he coughed, spitting blood onto the ground.
"I built half of this empire, but everyone only feared the great Vitelli."
I pressed the hot barrel of my gun against his sweaty forehead.
"You ruined my family because of your pathetic jealousy," I stated coldly.
"I did what had to be done to become the king," he laughed darkly.
I prepared to pull the trigger and end his miserable life forever.
Suddenly, a loud gunshot echoed from the dark shadows of the factory roof.
Matteo's head violently snapped back as a sniper bullet pierced directly through his skull.
He fell dead onto the concrete before I could even process what had just happened.

Someone else had just assassinated my greatest enemy right in front of me.
I quickly grabbed Alina and rushed back inside the factory to find our daughter.
