Chapter 7 - The Bloody Labyrinth

I handed Sophia a small flashlight and told her to stay hidden inside a hollowed-out shipping crate.

"Do not make a sound until Daddy comes back," I whispered.

I moved silently deeper into the cavernous, decaying factory.

Blood droplets on the dusty floor marked the exact path Matteo had taken with my wife.

He was dragging her toward the heavy loading docks at the rear of the building.

I systematically executed every single mercenary that crossed my path.

There was no mercy left in my dark soul.

I finally kicked open the metal doors leading to the rain-slicked loading dock.

Matteo was holding Alina by her hair, pressing a heavy pistol against her temple.

A sleek black helicopter was spooling its loud rotors on the concrete pad behind him.

"Drop the gun, Marco, or she dies right here!" Matteo screamed over the deafening engine noise.

"Let her go, and I will let you leave the city alive," I lied with a calm, deadly voice.

"We both know that is a complete lie," Matteo spat back.

He slowly began backing toward the waiting helicopter, dragging my struggling wife with him.

I calculated the wind speed, the distance, and the exact angle of his heavy weapon.

I only had one chance to make a perfect, impossible shot.

Suddenly, Alina violently slammed her high heel down onto Matteo's foot.

Matteo flinched, shifting his head away from her body for a fraction of a second.

I pulled the trigger without a single moment of hesitation.
