Chapter 6 - The Broken Safehouse

My finger completely froze on the trigger.

My elite bodyguards had failed me.

Matteo had somehow managed to breach the hotel and kidnap my daughter.

"Did you really think I would not track the men protecting her?" Matteo laughed, stroking Sophia's hair.

Alina screamed hysterically, fighting against her heavy ropes to reach our crying child.

I could not shoot Matteo now because his men were pointing loaded weapons directly at Sophia's head.

I had to change my tactical approach immediately.

I unslung my rifle and stepped out of the dark shadows onto the metal catwalk.

"You missed me, Matteo," I announced loudly.

The entire warehouse erupted into absolute chaos.

Matteo dropped his champagne glass in sheer terror as his men frantically raised their weapons toward the catwalk.

I dove behind a massive steel beam just as dozens of bullets sparked against the metal.

I threw a smoke grenade down onto the factory floor.

Thick white smoke instantly blinded the guards holding my daughter.

I leaped over the railing and crashed onto the floor below.

I moved purely on instinct and deadly training.

I shot two guards in the chest and pulled Sophia safely behind a concrete pillar.

"Stay down and cover your ears," I ordered my brave little girl.

I sprinted through the smoke toward the center of the room to save my wife.

But when the smoke finally began to clear, Alina's chair was completely empty.

Matteo had taken her deeper into the maze of the abandoned factory.
