Chapter 3 - The Frame-Up

Grace stared at the glittering diamond necklace resting innocently on top of her folded gray uniform.

"You absolutely cannot do this to me, Victor," she cried, her voice trembling with a wave of raw, suffocating panic.

Victor casually leaned against the locked door, spinning a heavy set of brass keys on his index finger like a bored child.

"Mrs. Higgins and I have been secretly selling Mr. Whitmore's priceless valuables on the black market for months," he confessed with a cruel, remorseless smirk.

"We desperately needed a believable scapegoat because the corporate auditors are arriving next week, and you are the absolute perfect, naive target."

Outside the window, Adrian clenched his fists so tightly that his fingernails dug painfully into his muddy palms.

His own trusted head housekeeper and his elite security guard were running a massive criminal enterprise right under his nose.

He could hear the distant, high-pitched wail of police sirens echoing ominously down the long, winding estate driveway.

Grace lunged desperately for her canvas bag, frantically trying to throw the stolen diamond necklace away before the authorities arrived.

Victor reacted with brutal speed, grabbing her violently by the hair and throwing her forcefully onto the hard linoleum floor.

Adrian could not stand by in the shadows and watch this innocent woman suffer physical abuse for another single second.

He grabbed a heavy, decorative garden stone from the flowerbed and smashed it directly through the staff lounge window.

Thick glass shattered everywhere, raining down dangerously over the lounge chairs and the expensive coffee table.

Victor shouted in pure surprise, raising his arms to shield his face from the sharp, flying shards of broken glass.

Adrian vaulted athletically through the broken window, landing heavily on his feet between Grace and the corrupt guard.

"You again?" Victor roared in anger, pulling a heavy black tactical baton from his leather duty belt.

Adrian had spent years training privately in elite martial arts dojos, but he was currently wearing bulky, restrictive rags that severely limited his movement.

Victor swung the heavy baton with ruthless force, striking Adrian hard across the shoulder and sending a jolt of blinding agony down his spine.

Adrian retaliated instantly with a swift, punishing punch to Victor's jaw, but the security guard managed to grab the front of Adrian's filthy coat.

During the violent, chaotic struggle, Victor's hand hooked accidentally onto the thick, messy fake beard glued securely to Adrian's face.

The professional theatrical adhesive ripped violently from his skin, entirely exposing the sharp, aristocratic jawline hidden beneath the beggar disguise.

More importantly, the torn beard exposed the distinct, crescent-shaped scar on his chin resulting from a childhood horseback riding accident.

Victor froze completely, the heavy black baton dropping from his trembling hand as he stared at the incredibly familiar face.

"Mr. Whitmore?" Victor gasped, the color completely draining from his skin as he realized he had just viciously attacked his billionaire boss.
