Chapter 8 - The Inferno
The intense heat of the massive fire blistered Evelyn's skin as she sprinted toward the blazing warehouse.
She completely ignored the primal instinct telling her to run away from the danger.
She kicked open a side door, coughing violently as thick black smoke filled her lungs.
The interior was a terrifying vision of hell, with wooden crates burning all around her.
She spotted Adrian and Sterling locked in a brutal, bloody fistfight near the center of the room.
Tessa was lying unconscious on the floor nearby, her hands still bound by thick ropes.
Evelyn bravely ran through the flames and desperately dragged Tessa away from the collapsing roof.
She used a piece of broken glass to quickly cut the ropes binding her best friend's wrists.
Sterling suddenly pulled a hidden switchblade and viciously slashed Adrian's arm.
Adrian stumbled backward, bleeding heavily and losing his balance in the thick smoke.
Sterling raised the blade to deliver the final, fatal strike to his hated rival.
Evelyn screamed and threw the heavy historical ledger directly at Sterling's head.
The heavy book struck him perfectly, causing him to drop the knife in sheer shock.
Adrian used the distraction to deliver a devastating punch, knocking Sterling completely unconscious.
Adrian grabbed Evelyn and Tessa, shouting that they needed to leave right now.
