Chapter 1 - The Confession
Adrian stared at her with dark, dangerous eyes.
He stepped closer until the scent of expensive cologne and copper filled her senses.
Evelyn folded her arms tightly against her chest.
She asked him what he meant by looking at her.
Adrian reached out and gently tucked a stray curl behind her ear.
He told her she was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen.
Evelyn felt her heart hammer violently against her ribs.
At twenty-four, no man had ever spoken to her with such raw hunger.
She told him he was bleeding and needed a doctor.
Adrian smiled faintly and said the pain was completely irrelevant right now.
He leaned down, his face mere inches from hers.
Evelyn closed her eyes, entirely anticipating her very first kiss.
Suddenly, the heavy mahogany doors of the library burst open.
A man in a catering uniform stepped into the room holding a silenced pistol.
Adrian instantly shoved Evelyn to the floor and drew a weapon from his jacket.
He fired two shots, dropping the assassin instantly to the expensive rug.
Evelyn screamed as blood pooled across the beautiful stone floor.
Adrian grabbed her hand and pulled her roughly to her feet.
He told her they had to run before the rest of the hit squad arrived.
Evelyn asked who those men were and what they wanted.
